Few words echoed in my vision ushering the beginning of the journey. Several minutes after ingesting one medium sized gorgeous San Isidro Mushroom, what many would consider a small dose opened up my dieta after a traditional ceremony 24 hours prior.

Another experience on the path of medicine had started. In the southern mountains of Mexico, several leaves of freshly picked Niños Santos (Derrumbes: Landslide and San Isidro Mushrooms) have been served and welcomed with love to accompany me and a dear friend in a medicine space. Another exploration with one intention: medicine to mediate, gentleness to share, truth to expand, love to feel and light to see.

I silently opened the medicine space and my called upon guides into the room of a hotel. I had started feeling the medicine as soon as I blessed and ingested it. It was still working from the night before and I felt the crescendo in my being.
Eyes shut, the shivers were rippling and sensations accentuating. A shaking I knew. The slow rise and fall of a breath ushering a liminal space where a traditional ceremony adorned by Christian prayers was woven with Mazatecan hymns in time and beyond it.

She appeared again; I heard the words as I felt her Spirit strongly present in the space. I had called upon her guidance as I always did with the intention to learn Medicine. Maria Sabina, one of the main Elders and Medicine Woman of Huautla de Jimenez came along with the Spirit of her Mountain and guide, Nindó Tokoxo – Cerro de la Adoración (The hill or mountain of worship).

I felt right then that I am going on yet another deep dive and I have been preparing for these 5 days way before arriving to Huautla this time.

My first visit to this part of Mexico was 2 years ago and the calling was essentially to be on the land where Maria Sabina walked, lived and practiced her widely known “veladas”. What she called Niños Santos were her food as she was starving, her guides as she was witnessing unknown sicknesses of close and far ones and they were her mediums to access and express a voice that was beyond her. A voice that came from the divine, as she was chosen to be and become.

Shortly into the night, weird fluorescent visions started showing with a physical unease as if opening a different kind of gateway; One I was not used to in my journeys so far. I was taken into the world of the Mazatecs who have been the indigenous people of the Southern mountains A.D.
Somehow, I did not want to go there and I was trying to shift the journey but this was the way to learn about the story of this land here and meet the many spirits in this space.
The visions were not nice at all. I was seeing brutal and ferocious energies that were kind of woven in the space of the mushrooms to maybe protect and allow the survival of this group of people over time.
Somehow, along the way, I saw that the people were controlled by some spirits and there was a lot of killing and fighting. The space looked one of “insanity”.
I saw again and again the frequency of fear in creating separation.
Quite familiar in the story of humanity.
What was interesting was the role of the women over time. Their prayers and invocations held the community together and somehow brought a vulnerable sense of sanity back. Harmony held chaos.

It was time to have a Mapacho.
I pulled myself and wrapped my shivering body with the blanket, rolled a Mapacho and sat by the window.

My dear friend was there, gently supporting me as I was sharing my experience. We spoke for hours about life and the layering and transitions of traditions when fear and control take over.

Something we are living and experiencing at this moment.

My dieta finished on a beautiful note with the Derrumbes engulfing my whole being with warmth and love. The medicine was massaging my whole being from the inside as if bringing the pieces together. I was blessed by the medicine of Mountain Spirit who taught me a lot and joined me on my medicine journey with the graceful and deep guidance of Maria Sabina’s Spirit. Bit by bit, learning and growing.

The journey continues…

In Love and Medicine.

We hold the experience of birth in our body’s memory. From the moment a seed was planted in our mother’s womb, our own creation started manifesting in form. We moved from a pure consciousness expression into a human consciousness experience.

In this experience, we come to witness and see, on many occasions, a glimpse of how creation works in cycles and spirals while we learn about linearity and we move with its veils, boundaries and structures.

When the movement of life’s cycles gets us close to the center of the spiral’ a centripetal movement, everything comes to an almost collision-like big bang. One of dismemberment in which the outer layers of the spiral dissipate and a whole initiation of a new cycle starts.

A moment in time, where time does not exist and only the present that life offers brings in the opportunity to step into a whole new paradigm shift.

We are living this individually and collectively right now and however I can try to put it, the words can only describe how it feels like to watch this movie and be part of it while knowing that, everyone of us, has a role to play sometimes and sit in the spectator seat with a giant box of popcorn other times.

We all know, in a way or another, from each one’s personal experience, that sometimes, we need to grab onto something, anything, so tightly as if our life depends on it. If we have been doing that all our life, we are witnessing the crashing and burning of it.

Things are breaking, dismantling and many are going through a process of dismemberment.

Every part, how it used to be placed and situated is getting uprooted and moved into almost thin air. It is like gravity is changing its mind from keeping us together yet we still see our bodies here.

The pain of dismemberment is brutal, to say the least. The pieces of the psyche are shattered just like the effect of an intense non-nuclear blast in the center of Beirut, a city, a country, a land. What is the difference between a land and a body?

The projection is real. The reality is showing what is going on inside each one who is still breathing on this earth.

When we do hold on to anything, we wish time would stop in that moment of pleasure.

We wouldn’t know how to do that when we are babies lying on the bosom of our mother and feeding on her body because we do not know what control or loss means yet.

When we face inconceivable pain and knee-bending loss, time stops. Right there and right then, nothing matters anymore. We find ourselves naked under the eye of God. Nothing to hide and nothing to do.

Like a seed that just dropped from a tree on bare earth, it is held by an organism that opens up for an extension of life to continue, taking roots and getting covered again to sprout and transform into another tree.

How magical life is?

When we look around and see the center of the spiral moving so fast and yet so slow.

A hole that can be the start and the end simultaneously.

A hole where creation and destruction co-exist and the emergence of life in its full expression carries the potential of living and dying in it.

Life is a rite of passage and death too.

When we go through an internal death, a dismemberment, a loss of everything we knew, we open up to remembering something and that thing can bring in a true sense of living and dying.

The pieces come together again and we feel a whole rebirth happening in our bones and skin.

When we are ready to live fully, we are ready to die fully.

The cycle of life is such and life is happening through us.

Going and coming. As the breath, as everything in nature, as everything in this universe.

Live fully.

Love fully.

In Love and Medicine.

Every form of life has a spirit to it, be it still or mobile to the naked eye. The shape of the physical form can translate the shape of the spirit itself. No shape is identical to any other in its gross representation all the way to how it took that shape over the days, months, and years. Each has its own signature and is the conglomerate product of spirits that make up the immensity of creation.

Shamans, women, and men, watched nature, sat in nature, and imitated nature beings to call on and embody their spirits through an open, untamed, and pure connection. They knew that nature holds the wisdom and the power of life from the peck of sand to the blinding sand storms. The drop of water to the majestic oceans and snowstorms. The movement of tectonic plates to the surfacing of gigantic mountains. The warming rays of the sun above to the melting volcanos venting the below. They were interested in what looked scary and they explored it with courage and resilience.

To them, earth spoke and they listened. Spirit was bigger and they connected to its dimensions. The skies were their maps. The stars and planets bestowed messages and omens. Every being talked to them showing the way to find food, shelter, and medicinal plants to heal the body, sustain the livelihood and maintain harmony in a community.

Spirit spoke through sounds and they learned the language and the power of it. Some abused it and still do. Others honored it, taught it well, and knew that they are mere messengers on this earth that were chosen and chose others to carry the lineage.

With the evolution of humanity, we can’t deny the gradual distancing from nature and the abuse that fed the greedy spirits in the human psyche. On the other hand, the energetic network that connects the earth from the mycelial web to the energy lines and sacred power sites in which sages and mystics sat and channeled light and wisdom for ages awakened the embedded information in our current genetic material.

Shamanism is known to be the oldest practice in the history of humanity and the acquired word “Saman” comes from a relatively recent depiction found in the Northern European (Siberia) lands but the word, in its many descriptions, is timeless. http://Where Does the Word ‘Shaman’ Come From? – Green Tara College – School of Shamanism (shamanic-training.eu)

When we look at a practice that is tracked with an estimation of tens of thousands of years and is more so alive and needed in these times, we can say that Spirit is speaking louder inviting many to open up to learning a whole new language expressing it through art, medicine, architecture, finances, law, production, education, politics and every other field of society that we have the opportunity to refine with pure intention.

The language of Spirit is the one that connects us all. When we touch on that, we come to know that everything we think of and do plays an essential role in the livelihood of others, the harmony and balance in nature.
