Episode Description:

For this very first episode of the “Inspired By” Podcast, I was inspired by the work that Yvonne Lambert is doing with mushrooms and plants. Yvonne is a multi-instrumentalist in the Austin, TX based experimental pop band, “The Octopus Project” which started in 2002.

Over the past year, Yvonne has been collecting biodata from various mushrooms, plants, and animals via a MIDI Biodata Sonification Device that turns biodata into MIDI information, which is then used to make music and control visuals.

We discuss how music was an innate language that she spoke passionately since her childhood and how that evolved into exploring the emotions evoked and explored in her own healing journey and in her intention to help others heal through sound and music.

Since 2019, her connection to the language of nature in her travels in Peru, were I also met her, spoke to her and her husband and brought another level of translating music directly from the source.

Yvonne speaks passionately about the sound range of the mushroom kingdom that is totally distinct from plants and trees. She also shares with us a live demonstration of the sound of her plant friend “Ray” and some of the Yellow Oyster Mushrooms.

The depth and dance of emotions, the fun of sharing, the eyes shining bright while talking about our passions and the love that were felt during our time together were so precious and a great way to start this podcast.
